Is Mexico safe for solo women travelers? (honest answer)

The safety question comes up every time. Here's an honest, practical answer — and what makes a guided group retreat a very different experience than traveling alone.

It's the first question we get. And it's a fair one.

Mexico is a big, complex country — and like any country, the answer to "is it safe?" depends entirely on where you're going, how you're going, and who you're with.

The honest answer

Solo female travel in Mexico carries real considerations. Certain regions have well-documented safety concerns, and traveling alone as a woman anywhere in the world requires awareness and preparation.

The Riviera Maya — where our retreat is based — is one of the most visited regions in Mexico. It's not without caution, but it's a very different reality than the headlines that typically represent Mexico as a whole.

What makes a guided retreat different

The freedom of a retreat is that you get the experience of being somewhere extraordinary without the vulnerability of solo navigation.

Where we stay

Our Mexico retreat is held at Lunita Jungle Retreat in the Riviera Maya — a private property fully immersed in the jungle, with its own cenote, yoga pavilion, and casitas. You're not in a busy resort corridor or navigating city streets.

What we've seen again and again

Women who were nervous about coming to Mexico — who almost talked themselves out of it — are consistently the ones who say it was one of the most meaningful experiences of their lives.

Not because nothing felt unfamiliar. But because they did something that scared them a little, with the right support around them.

If you have specific questions about the area or the property, reach out. We're happy to talk through it before you book.

Our Becoming HER retreat in Mexico runs October 27–31, 2026. Limited spots remaining.
