Packing for a retreat is different from packing for a vacation. You're not trying to look like a different version of yourself. You're trying to feel like the most comfortable, unencumbered version of yourself.
Here's what we actually recommend for the Riviera Maya jungle in late October.
Clothing — keep it light
October in the Riviera Maya is warm and humid. Natural fabrics only — linen, cotton, bamboo.
- 2–3 yoga or movement sets
- 1–2 light sundresses or linen sets for evenings
- A lightweight long-sleeve layer (evenings cool slightly)
- Comfortable sandals
- One pair of closed-toe shoes for jungle paths
- A swimsuit — you will be in cenotes
Leave behind → the outfits you bought hoping you'd look a certain way. You won't care by day two.
Toiletries
- Reef-safe sunscreen — the cenotes require it and it matters
- Insect repellent
- Any medications you take regularly
- A small first aid kit
- Skincare basics — you don't need much, the jungle air does something to your skin
For the practices
- A journal — non-negotiable. Bring a pen you like. You will want to write things down
- A yoga mat is provided at Lunita
For the cenotes
- Water shoes — optional but nice for rocky edges
- A waterproof bag for your phone if you want photos
Note → the cenotes are sacred spaces. We ask that you go in without perfume or strong products on your skin.
Technology — go lighter than you think
- Phone for photos → yes
- Laptop → you probably won't want it
- Download offline content before you leave — the property has WiFi but it's intentionally unhurried
Things most people forget
- A reusable water bottle — you'll go through a lot in the heat
- Cash in pesos for shopping or tips
- Electrolyte packets for the humid days
- A small headlamp for early mornings
Things most people bring and never use
- Three times as many clothes as they need
- Books (you'll journal instead)
- The anxiety about fitting in — gone by day one
